Company Origin

Michael Gilmartin founded Olympia Moving & Storage in 1993 with a truck and a 5000 sq ft warehouse as a small Boston moving company. Michael & his team established their reputation by smashing the average mover stereotype and working harder, faster, and providing exceptional customer service. His team amazed their first clients by running up & down stairs in historic Boston walk-ups.

 

Since then, Olympia has grown significantly, diversifying their business lines and expanding into several states.

Boston Branch

Olympia’s first branch opens in 1993

 

Olympia’s first branch, founded with Michael Gilmartin’s “whatever it takes” mindset, set the tone for the company’s future. From day one, the Boston branch embraced community involvement, building strong local connections that fueled its early growth. By hiring hardworking, dedicated individuals, Boston established a standard of excellence that continues to guide every branch today.

Washington DC Branch

Olympia opens its second branch in 2001

 

Olympia’s second branch began with a single truck, an apartment, and a vision. Built one move at a time, the DC branch quickly earned its reputation for excellence. Over time, it expanded to a warehouse and a fleet of trucks in Hyattsville, MD. Guided by the same “whatever it takes” mindset as Boston, the DC branch became a key driver of Olympia’s continued growth and success.

Philadelphia Branch

Olympia opens Philly branch in 2016

 

Building on the success of its first two branches, Olympia expanded to Philadelphia to establish its third location. Strategically located, the Philadelphia branch bridges the gap between Boston and DC, extending Olympia’s reach to South New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Leveraging strong relationships with local institutions and organizations, the branch has grown steadily while upholding Olympia’s commitment to quality service.

Austin Branch

Olympia opens its first midwest branch in 2018

 

Two years after establishing the Philadelphia branch, Olympia expanded south to open its fourth location in ATX. Leveraging strong national relationships in both residential and commercial markets, the Austin branch quickly became a trusted provider for Central Texas. Today, it continues to grow, offering top-tier moving and storage services to the region.

Tampa Branch

Olympia launches Southeast operations with Tampa branch in 2024

 

Olympia opened its most recent (and southernmost) branch in Tampa, Florida, completing its reach along the East Coast—from Boston to Tampa. Building on the foundations and network of its previous branches, the Tampa location is already making an impact, offering hurricane recovery support alongside residential and commercial moving and storage services.

Olympia Joins Wheaton Network in 1996

Since 1996, Olympia has proudly served as an agent for Wheaton World Wide Moving, connecting clients to a trusted network of over 350 interstate movers. With 30 years of experience in residential moves, Olympia ensures clients receive expert coordination, clear communication, and a customized moving plan tailored to their needs. With decades of experience and numerous accolades within the 350 agents in Wheaton’s network—including Wheaton’s Mover of the Year (2003, 2007, 2021) and the 2016 Customer Loyalty Award—Olympia continues to deliver reliable, customized and stress-free moving solutions.
