International moving can be a daunting and if you’ve never done it before, you need to work with an international moving company that will guide you through the process, has the network and resources to manage the move, and the crew with the experience to prepare your belongings to go abroad.
Last year Olympia Moving moved almost 1,000 families to or from Greater Boston, Washington DC, and Philadelphia, to or from over 60 countries. From a move just across the border to Canada to a move across the ocean to the United Emirates, we will work personally with you and our global network of reputable relocation specialists to get you there.
Olympia Moving is a certified Registered International Mover by the American Moving and Storage Association and a member of the International Association of Movers. Both organizations have rigorous membership requirements and are dedicated to connecting quality moving companies across the globe.
When you book an international move with Olympia Moving & Storage, Olympia takes full responsibility for planning and managing your move and the Olympia crew, especially trained in international moving, will pack and load your belongings for shipment. Olympia selects only the most reputable partners to transport and deliver to your new home abroad.
What to Expect When You Move Internationally with Olympia
If this is your first international move, you may not know where to begin or even what the process looks like. Olympia Moving’s team will work personally with your family to make your international move seamless.
Step 1: Start planning with a free moving consultation and estimate
Reach out for your no obligation, free estimate about six weeks prior to your move date. Your moving advisor will meet you in your home to discuss what is being moved, your plans and timeline, and explain the process. Olympia will reach out to our quality partners in the country of your destination and provide you with pricing.
Step 2: Communicate with your dedicated move coordinator
We assign every family a dedicated move coordinator to guide them through every step of their international move. As soon as you are ready to book, call your coordinator with your dates so they can start reserve the Olympia crew as well as transport and the crew at destination. Your coordinator will answer any questions you may have and guide you through the paperwork and customs laws for your destination country.
Step 3: Choose your transit method
Depending on how many belongings you’re moving, how quickly you need your shipment, and budget, Olympia Moving can send your shipment via air or via ocean shipping container. If you are moving a full household we will load the shipping container directly at your home. If you are moving just the essentials, we will load a lift van directly at your home for shipping container consolidation.
Step 3: Your professional moving crew arrives
Our team will arrive at your home, armed with materials specialized for international moving, and ready to pack your belongings, inventory, and weigh your shipment according to the transit method you chose. For your belongings’ safety in transit and for customs inventories, our crew provides a full pack for all international moves.
Step 4: We’ll keep you informed of your belongings’ journey
After departing your home, your belongings are off to the nearest airport or port to be shipped by our international shipping partner. The transit time can be long, especially for ocean shipments, so your coordinator will check in with you as your shipments progress towards their final destination. We will guide you through the customs process, which depends on the country of your new home.
Step 5: Welcome home
Our quality partner in your destination country will bring your belongings to your new home, unload, place unpack, place furniture according to your preference, and remove all the empty boxes and packing material.
