Every year we showcase our truck at the Watertown Family Network’s Touch The Trucks event. It’s always a blast for the crew members exhibiting our truck, and this year was no exception. Ryan and Liviu took pictures of some pretty cute future Olympia movers!

The new Millennium Place condos in the heart of Boston’s Downtown Crossing are the definition of luxury. Developed by Millennium Partners (who also developed The Ritz Carlton Boston Common and the upcoming Millennium Tower), their website boasts “more than a place to live, this is a way to live,” a promise delivered by the building’s many unique and exclusive luxuries.
For relaxing, Millennium Place offers a lounge, wine tasting/dining room, courtyard garden, an in-building Legal Seafoods restaurant, and an HD movie and TV screening room. Active residents can use a first-class gym by SportsClub LA which includes a spa, yoga, and Pilates studios. Families can enjoy the children’s room. For socializing, Millennium Place created the “La Vie” program which offers exclusive theater events, wine tastings, parties, and outings designed to create a tight-knit community.
The managers of Millennium Place also recognized that the move-in would provide an essential first impression. Millennium Partners needed a fully accountable, full-service mover that knew how to handle every detail of relocating high-end clients. Olympia was already up to the challenge, but we also wanted to ensure that not a single detail was missed. Olympia’s coordinators worked closely with the building managers to customize the move plans based on our walk-troughs with staff and the building’s floor plans. In order to accommodate the construction of the condo’s finishing touches, Olympia tailored the schedules to fit Millennium’s evening move-in slots.

This basic dolly is lightweight This critical mover supply is the first on the list whenever a move is needed. It makes loading and unloading of boxes, furniture and bulky items much faster.
When a large piece like an armoire or mattress just won’t fit through the front door, hope isn’t lost. Our crew can wrap the piece then manually hoist it through the window, using just their strength and these straps! Our crew commonly hoists pieces to the 2nd or 3rd floor with ease! Commonly used on moves with a long walk or elevator, the crew can fill bins or crates with boxes and small pieces, then transport the load on a 4-wheel dolly. This allows the crew to move more items than they can carry and minimize the number of needed trips. This is one of the more inventive mover supplies, while basic in nature, it provides a tremendous amount of capability and flexibility.
This more specific dolly allows the crew to easily wheel out big, heavy appliances like refrigerators and stoves more quickly and securely.
Do you have stairs or a stoop leading to your door? The crew can set up a small ramp over the stairs, which allows them to use wheel dollies. Of course, the crew also always sets up a ramp that leads into the truck to ensure smooth footing while the crew is carrying your possessions.
Some trucks come equipped with a pallet jack, which is used to move only the very heaviest items onto the truck, such as a safe or small machinery.
This piece of equipment is used to safely carry a piano. The end and board support the piano. The board also has slots for straps to keep the piano secure and handles to help carry the piece.
When clients need us to take apart furniture like beds, dining room tables, and more, our crew is prepared with a tool kit to ensure that basic assembly and disassembly is taken care of. One of the most important mover supplies we have, these tools allow us to tackle any complexity we find within your move.
Who can forget our most important piece of equipment, our trucks! Olympia has cube trucks, straight trucks, and tractor trailers in our fleet to accommodate any size move. All our trucks are equipped with the above equipment along with a few extra boxes and moving materials to ensure that our crew is ready for anything!

Last weekend, our Virginia crew pulled a 164K lbs airplane to benefit Special Olympics VA. Not to be outdone, Massachusetts crew participated in the Humboldt Truck Pull to benefit Special Olympics MA on Saturday.
The crew was challenged to pull a moving truck, a Boston Duck Boat, and a tractor trailer. The competition was fierce, but our crew managed to place 2nd for fastest combined pull times!

The event raised over $15K for the Special Olympics athletes! The money will be used to provide year-round sports training and athletic competitions for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

As part of our ongoing support and sponsorship, our Virginia moving crew pitched in over the weekend for the Dulles Plane Pull to benefit Special Olympics Virginia!
Olympia was proud to be the official logistics sponsor of the event. During the prior week, Olympia managed pickups and deliveries for the Plane Pull’s supplies. Our crew also helped the SOVA team with set up, and provided day-of logistics support.
Ellen Head, director of development with Special Olympics Virginia, had the following to say about the crew: “THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Your team was so helpful in so many ways and made such a positive impact on the event. All of your staff that were sent to assist or deliver throughout the week were always punctual, professional and so helpful. If I could throw you all in one big group hug, I would! THANK YOU!”
At our event sponsor booth, kids had fun exploring the inside of one of our moving trucks.
Team Olympia also participated in the Plane Pull. Our crew was able to pull a 164K lbs airplane in 6.791 seconds, earning them 9th place out of the 66 participating teams! If our crew can move a plane that fast, imagine how fast they can move a home!

Another Allston Christmas has come come and gone. The year, the infamous Boston moving weekend was even tougher due to high temperatures, rain, and humidity, but our Olympia crew managed to pull off successful moves for our clients!

Olympia Moving & Storage is entering our second year in partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association of New England.
Each year the Alzheimer’s Association holds two great events – The Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the RUN TRI RIDE to End Alzheimer’s.
Our friendly Olympia crew is always well-received by both Alzheimer’s Association employees and volunteers as well as participants in their events.
We just completed the RUN TRI RIDE event a few weeks ago. Event coordinator Angela Floro had the following to say:
“Olympia Moving has been a tremendous partner with the Alzheimer’s Association fundraising events. In July, Olympia Moving helped with our Ride to End Alzheimer’s. This event is a one day cycling event and we had a record breaking year with 450 cyclists and we are entering our goal of $500,000! We truly could not have put on this event without Lou and his crew. They were outstanding in every way. Thank you for your support!”

At Olympia Moving & Storage, we’re thinking about moving every day, but there’s one time of year when moving is on every Bostonian’s mind.
The universities are prepping for back to school, the roads are clogged with Uhauls, and abandoned mattresses are populating the sidewalk. It can only mean one thing: September 1st, also known as Boston Move-In Day or Allston Christmas, is coming.
Even if you don’t have to move, there’s a lot to dread around September 1st in Boston. 79% of leases have availability dates at the beginning of September, so thousands of Boston residents are moving on the same day. Moving is hard enough, but when you add bumper to bumper traffic, fighting for elevator use, double-parked moving trucks, and abandoned belongings littering the sidewalk into the mix, it’s a whole new level of challenging.
Despite the difficulties, Boston Moving Day has become a bit of a city-wide tradition. The day is affectionately nicknamed “Allston Christmas” due to the copious number of free household items left on the sidewalk.
